coverage beginning with annie in the weather center. >> we were thinking showers and sthorms are developing. here's a look for severe thunderstorms. a watch in effect until 10:00 p.m. for the counties to the south of us. around stafford and virginia also for tonight. now here's a look at live doppler 9,000hd where the immediate beltway area maybe few light showers to the south, but right now we're seeing most of the storms and the heaviest activity with the lightning just way down to the south and more like richmond area. but right around dc, maybe some light showers developing, which means for some of those fireworks, it could be an issue. maybe even some delays in some areas. here's a look at the fireworks forecast for tonight. now temperature by 9:00 around 83 degrees will be mostly cloudy conditions. at that point still isolated thunderstorms are possible and it will be warm. >> i'm delia off north glee road in arlington where you can

see crews are hard at work trying to restore power and a sense of normalcy in yorktown neighborhoods after sunday's fast moving storm. >> mayhem, chaos. >> his dad had a couple close calls last night. >> a big gust of wind came out of nowhere. try to turn around and stay home, get to my house and find two large oaks, one crushed my wife's car. >> national weather service says a macro burst touched down just after 6:20 with wind gusts up to 70 miles an hour. >> i heard a terrible noise. i thought it was lightning, but the next thing i know, all these branches were in my living room. >> a couple close calls. walked away from us, we're okay. >> i'm scott broom in whites ferry, maryland. abandoned camping equipment,

bicycle parts, and discarded first aid supplies. neil reich was hit and killed by a falling tree by storms early sunday evening. >> that's too bad because everyone out here is having a good time. >> like a lot of people you meet on the trail, reich was on a long distance overnight trip when they were caught in the weather. reich was putting on rain gear, his friend had just pedal add short distance away, both were a long shelter away. rescuers used an atv and used chain saws, he died at the scene. >> scott, thank you. some more very sad news this independence day. a six-year-old boy died this morning during what was supposed to be a day of fun at sandy point state park. pulled the boy from the swimming area and began performing cpr. first responders took over and rushed the child to the hospital. he died a short time later. well the countdown clock is

ticking and thousands of people are on the national mall waiting for those first fireworks to go off. in just about two hours, the skies above dc will be lit up to celebrate independence day. armando trull is live in the middle of all the action. armando. >> matt, the first fireworks haven't gone off, but we felt the first rain drops. take a look behind me. some folks started to break out the umbrella. at this point, it's very light rain, nothing to be too alarmed about. earlier today, it was bright and sunny. there were marching bands from all over america. a tribute to our armed forces. >> my stepson is a marine. and he's over in afghanistan, so we're just waiting for him to get home. >> floats and vehicles of all

is imaginary and claims he'll sue her for slander. all this as the rape case against the former ims chief seems to be falling apart. a maid accused him of raping her. very serious questions about her credibility. straight ahead, casey anthony's jury gets down to business, but not before the last word from the prosecution. but first -- police shut down a dangerous show before it had a chance to get started. stay with us, we'll be right back.

that's the sound of more than 5,000 pounds of fireworks going up in smoke. they were set on fire and then ignited at a new york city weapons range. it is illegal to buy, sell, transport, or use fireworks in the big apple. police arrested seven people in connection with those fireworks. in great britain, a fourth of july honor for the late ronald reagan. a 10-foot statue was unveiled in london and commissioned by the reagan memorial fund trust. well it's an extra special day

welcome back, everyone. check this out. in thailand, an explosives expert in a protective suit inspects a car. leans into open the door, the blast blows him to the ground, but seconds later fortunately he is on his feet with only minor injuries. >> back here in the u.s., jury deliberations are underway in the murder trial of casey anthony. she is the young florida mother accused of killing her two-year- old daughter, caylee in 2008. elizabeth takes a look back on the trial that has captivated the nation's attention. >> casey anthony sat in a florida jail cell for two and a half years waiting for her trial to begin. it finally got underway in may and it didn't take long for the defense to drop the first bomb shell. anthony's lawyer jose biaz told the jury little caylee marie anthony drowned in the family pool and casey anthony and her

father, george, covered up the death. he explained casey's questionable behavior that she came from a family of secrets and incest. >> it all began when casey was eight years old and her father came into her room and began to touch her inappropriately. >> george was first on the witness stand for the state. >> have you ever sexually molested your daughter casey anthony? >> no, sir. >> prosecutors painted casey as a killer who dumped the body and embarked on a month long party spree. casey researched ways to kill the little girl on the family's computer, but their case took a hit when casey's mother took the stand. >> i don't recall put in how to make chloroform, but i did google search chloroform. >> anthony family provided the

most emotional testimony. george anthony admitted he was so overcome with grief at the loss of his granddaughter, he contemplated suicide. >> i needed at that time to go and be with caylee. >> cindy anthony broke down upon hearing the 911 call she made in 2008 that turned police on to her daughter. >> something wrong, i found my daughter's car today and it smells like there was a dead body in the car. >> person the jury never heard from was casey anthony herself. >> is it your decision not to testify based upon consultation with your council? >> yes, sir. >> each side rested, leaving the jury with these final words. >> casey anthony is sited on june 16, that something had to be sacrificed. she chose to sacrifice her child to live the life she

the gop is opposed. senator john mccain may be open to negotiations and senator john cornen likes the idea of eliminating certain tax loopholes. >> we could bring down rates, eliminate tax expenditures and actually make our nation more competitive internationally. >> both sides have agreed to a trillion dollars in spending cuts, but democrats also want something they call revenue raisers. they include ending tax breaks for oil companies and corporations that send jobs overseas. democrats are also calling for the elimination of subsidies for corporate jet owners. annie joins us now. it could be touch and go for fireworks? >> definitely you want the umbrellas for tonight. go inside if you see thunderstorms. we are seeing the possibility of severe weather. already some of the severe thunderstorm watches have been pulled back out toward really the far southwest. so we still have them in effect until 10:00 p.m. the areas you see shaded in

yellow, that does include lower southern maryland and also parts of the northern neck in central virginia. right now here's a look at live doppler 9,000hd. around the beltway, maybe some few light showers going through, but we have most of the light stuff going through south here. right now no major thunderstorms right now associated with this system. we can see some light showers south of alexandria, la plata. basically have crossed over interstate 95. let's head up north where we also have some light stuff going on. around frederick, crossing 270 and toward mt. arie. charlestown looking at showers. south of it, a little storm there. nothing severe as of now. so here's a look at the forecast. right now, we are expecting some thunderstorms to maybe impact some of those fireworks events for tonight. if you see lightning, hear some thunder, get inside. secure loose objects and stay away from windows. right now, very warm out there.

87 downtown. winchester cooling down to 68 degrees. so still unsettled for tonight. the severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 10:00 p.m. mainly to the south once again. damaging wind, now that's the biggest concern, just like yesterday. lightning also the possibility. tuesday as you are heading back to work, it will be hot again. here's your future cast. this is what one model things could be happening. at 9:00 when the fireworks are going off and the good news here with this model is dry for the dc area, to the north and south, we could see some storms going through. maybe some severe storms down to the south of us. and then overnight, maybe some light showers in the south once again in the southern maryland area, charles county, then tomorrow afternoon, some spotty showers and some stray storms possible once again to the south of dc. so tonight, mostly cloudy and mild showers and storms possible. heavy and severe. mainly to the south.
